1967
Extent:
139 sentences and 41 notes
Description:
In this tale well-told in the words of the late raconteur Luasan Antubu, the trickster hero Pilanduk wins the hand of the princess Doña Maria when he guesses which of seven chickens is the mother hen. This narrative was first told orally, then edited into Subanen written style. It demonstrates features such as deletion of one of a pair of repeated words, the insertion of clarifying words and phrases, implicit information made explicit and correction of a logical discrepancy. The most prominent contrast between the oral and written texts is the latter's deletion of a proliferation of quote markers at pivotal points in the plot.
No rights information for Luasan Antubu as with other authors in "A voice from many rivers".
