Description:
This first-person account of an adultery case was dictated by an arbiter who assisted in the litigation, none other than master storyteller Ansulat Promon. The author's use of dramatic dialogue to recreate the trial gives the reader an on-the-scene view of the proceedings. Cultural features include divination in the form of a truth test. The account demonstrates the extreme politeness and respect with which arbiters remove shame and disharmony among the parties. Names have been changed to terms such as |iplaintiff|r (in parentheses), to protect the privacy of the participants.
